7 day Juice feast fast - Day 1

Monday 4th March 2013

I awoke late this morning as per usual. Jon is really good & just leaves me to sleep. He says i look peaceful so he doesn't like to wake me. I had a mixture of emotions knowing that this was going to be the start of my 7 day juice feast/fast. My first thought came when i walked into the kitchen & saw my Tassimo coffee machine & columbian coffee pods staring at me. I am a women who just can't function until she's had a proper coffee in her system. Is anyone else like this? This thought however soon subsided when i saw my new Tefal juicer & the abundance of multi coloured fresh fruit & veg when i opened the fridge door.

The Mean Green Juice

The first juice i just knew i had to try was the famous Mean Green juice. I was a little hesitant to go straight in with this as most people ease in to juicing with more fruits than vegetables to make the juice more palatable. Also i absolutely can't stand celery & there are 4 sticks in this juice. Any one that knows me knows i'm an all or nothing, in for a penny in for a pound, fly by the seat of my pants type o gal. So i decided to just suck it & see.

For this juice you need - 4 sticks of celery, 1 cucumber, 1 piece of ginger(according to taste), 1/2 lemon(skin on), 2 green apples( i use granny smiths), handful of spinach & 6 leaves of kale.

Ingredients laid out & ready to go

Because my juicer is a whole fruit juicer, it is really easy to whip up a batch of juice. Everything in this recipe just goes in whole. No chopping or peeling. My kinda meal!  Initially i could smell celery when i came to take my first sip which was a bit off putting, but surprisingly the juice tasted really nice & i couldn't taste the celery at all. The ingredients made 750ml which i poured over ice & glugged away on nicely for the rest of the morning. I immediately whipped up another batch & put it in an airtight jar & stored it in the fridge for my lunch. For my dinner, Jon kindly made me a more fruity juice which was a vibrant red colour. Red juices are meant to be good for your heart & it sure was tasty.

Thoughts & observations for day 1

Pleasantly i was never hungry
I never had my post coffee number 2(Sorry!)
My stomach made some really strange noises
I was neither more or less energised than a normal day
I really struggled to drink the recommended 2 litres of water
The juices weren't anywhere near as bad as i thought they'd be
I got a mild headache mid afternoon that grew worse until just before bedtime

I'm looking forward to weighing in tomorrow to see if i lose weight daily as you're meant to. Day 2 & 3 are apparently when the real withdrawal, headaches & foggyness begin so not really looking forward to that but will get through it & hopefully feel great on the other side.
